With wailing wind and churning cloud
Where far off shores and harbours lie
Concealed beneath a squally shroud
I’ve felt the wrench of angry waves
With blows that beat and bruise the boat
The chill of cold that creeps through bones
The frantic fight to stay afloat
I’ve watched a man serene in sleep
Secure and still, unfazed by fear
Unmindful that this fragile boat
Beneath the waves might disappear
I’ve strived, my heart sapped of its strength
“Lord, don’t you care?” my fearful cry
Roused by my shout, stirred from his sleep
He stands and lifts his hands on high
I’ve heard the man with words of power
Rebuke the wind and still the sea
And as the storm subsides, I’ve known
A stillness settle over me
I’ve listened as he speaks to storms
And nature kneels, surrenders all
Creation sighs, and sings her praise
Submitted to her Master’s call
I’ve left behind a paler life
Abandoned boat and shifting sea
A dawning destiny I’ve claimed
His call, embraced, “Come follow me.”
