Hear with your ears and eyes.
These are the things that Jesus taught
with words both true and wise.
He sat upon a mountain
and spoke to all who came.
He blessed them with His stories
taught in the Father’s Name.
He read their hearts’ deep questions
and knew they asked for this.
They asked to know His secret.
They wanted ‘Happiness’.
They wanted easy living.
They wanted fun and games.
They wanted laughter all day long.
They wanted everything.
So Jesus gave them answers
that made them scratch their heads.
He taught them eight ‘Be Happitudes.’
Yes, this is what He said.
First of all, be humble.
Don’t think that you’re ‘hot stuff’.
Do put your faith in God alone,
and that will be enough.
The next thing in the ‘Be’ list
is mourn within your soul.
When you do things that hurt the Lord,
just give Him back control.
Thirdly, to ‘Be Happy’,
is much like one and two.
Be meek enough to mind the Lord,
and much will come to you.
Fourth on the list? Get hungry
and thirst for all that’s good.
You will be filled, the Savior says,
with Heaven’s real soul food.
Number five is mercy.
Just do it, Jesus taught.
Be kind, and be forgiving
toward others as we ought.
The list is getting shorter,
but six is really big.
Be pure in heart and motives.
This is the way to live.
Now seven tells the secret
of how we’ll get our name.
Happy are the peace makers.
Don’t pout, and fight, and blame.
Eight, the last ‘Be Happitude,’
says stand for what is right.
Even though wrong is ‘in style’
keep Godly ways in sight.
This list that Jesus gave them
seemed strange and not quite ‘fun’,
but when they looked in Jesus’ eyes
they knew He was the One.
They knew He must be Who He said.
They felt it in their hearts.
He gave new words to ‘Happiness.’
He taught them where to start.
Some followed and found riches
beyond all earthly dross.
Some went their way still hoping for
a ‘Happy’ with no cost.
The Savior still is teaching
all those who want to find
the meaning of true 'Happiness',
God’s, Ways,
God’s Plans,
God’s Mind.
"Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in Heaven is great,..." Matthew 5:12a NASB

Blessed are the Be Happitudes!
Traditional poetry would raise its eyebrows at one rhyming stumble I saw in one stanza, but with a piece as good as this - who really cares?
You're the best, no kidding!
