Time is a teacher,
Yardstick in hand,
Teaching you lessons,
Some learned once already,
You will have to learn
Over again.
Time is a dancer,
Whirling seconds,
Twirling minutes,
Swirling hours,
To unheard melodies
Through all your days.
Time is a nurse,
Pouring soothing balm
On grievous hurts
That cut clear through to your heart.
They cannot heal completely,
But she gently eases their pain.
Time is a playful child,
Skipping lightly away
When you want him
To stand still.
Try as you might,
You can never catch him.
Time is a soldier,
Marching ever onward,
Never listening
For your command to halt,
Nor pausing in his battle
To slow down or to rest.
Time is a thief,
Relentlessly stealing
Youth and strength,
Thoughts and plans,
Dreams and hopes,
Until, at last, your memories.
Time is a runner,
Beginning the race
At an even pace,
Then finally, with a second wind,
He sprints with a sudden burst
To reach the end.
