Yards of linen pure and white,
Silver needles, stitches tight,
I will make my dress tonight,
And marry in the morning.
I hold close the letter from my beloved while I work. My soul rejoices at the eloquent expression of his love, and proposal of marriage. I do not fully understand the sacrifice required of him in order to send it, but with joy I sing, “I am forever yours.” I pray he will not tarry.
Gathered laces billowing,
Stitched with rosebuds in a ring~
Fair will be my covering,
So lovely in the dawning.
Ribbons of silk are transformed into delicate rosebuds, capturing the essence of the dawn. I sew them to lace and form my veil. Buttons are covered with satin. Just before sunset, I gather wild rose petals; they will make a fragrant path for my beloved to walk upon.
Silken ribbons overlaid,
Satin buttons I have made.
Fragrant blossoms from the glade,
I’ll scatter through the gloaming.
Then a voice, like the sound of a thousand waterfalls, cascades into the timeless pull of love. But it is not the voice of my beloved, and I dare not chase a fleeting dream so close to morning light. For the hour grows late; I must hurry, lest I miss my true love’s call.
Fitted bodice, flowing hem,
Swirling layers graced with trim,
I will sew and wait for Him…
His bride I’ll be, come dawning.

Long have I labored, struggling to keep myself from wrinkled care--my heart from the sin of doubt. Through it all, the spirit of his love for me, has given me the strength to endure. Now, as I slip into my finished wedding dress, a light breaks forth in the East. I hear his rapturous shout!
Pure white linen without stain,
Fragrant, glowing, free from shame,
Worthy thus, I took His name…
And married my love in the morning.
“…His bride has made herself ready…” “…without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless…” Revelation 19:7 Ephesians 5:27 NIV
