His question, though, was, “What’s for brunch?”
She thought he said, “I like your hat!”
He really said, “You’re wearing THAT?”
She thought he told her she looked old.
He only mentioned he was cold.
She thought he wanted to go shopping.
He’d wondered when she’d be through mopping.
He asked her for a new work bench.
Though he had three, she bought a wrench.
She thought he said, “Let’s watch TV.”
He said, “Come sit and talk to me.”
And so it went—the two of them,
Her rarely comprehending him.
You’d think a couple such as this
Would never care to coo and kiss,
But they’d no real misunderstanding,
Communication notwithstanding.
For both of them loved God the best;
With hearts attuned, their home was blessed.
And when she got a hearing aid,
Mistakes like these, no more she made.

As for the last lines:
