Are washing over me,
They’re about
To pull me down.
You told me
To walk out to You
And now
I’m going under.
Why, Lord?
I want to understand.
I’ve followed closely
Where You’ve led,
So careful to obey
And still this storm
Has come my way.
It’s wrapped around me,
Smothering me,
Threatening to destroy my life
And all that I hold dear.
Why, My Lord?
Did I imagine Your voice,
Or Your call upon my life?
Have I disobeyed You
In some way
That I don’t see,
Overlooked?
What have I done
To warrant this?
Please tell me
So I can repent!
The waves are more than I can bear
They’re towering over my head.
You reach out Your nail scarred hand
And draw me close to You.
“My child with little faith,” You sigh,
“It’s the waves that drew Me nigh.
I walked across the stormy sea
Sure footed and secure.
These waves that you so fear
Are merely tools I use,
Wielded with great care.
“There are things you need to learn, My child,
Without the gale you wouldn’t see-
You think your faith so strong in Me,
When really it’s weak and frail.
“Without the storm
You’d never see
How small your faith in Me.”
