Ode to an Alarm Clock
I have a little friend,
He sits upon my dresser
And every single morning
He puts me under pressure.
I know he must get tired
Of me pushing his buttons
But that’s the only way
To get him to say nothin’
I know he thinks he’s blessing me
With his happy little tune
I wouldn’t be as grumpy
If he’d let me sleep ‘till noon
He has a verse from Proverbs*
That sits upon his “brain”
To serve as a reminder
That his blessing is in vain.
I’ve named my friend Crescendo
‘Cause he gradually gets loud
I always try to turn him off
Before he gets too proud.
There is one thing about my friend
That I like way too much
It’s the button that says “snooze”
It only takes one touch.**
Eventually I get his point,
And stumble out of bed,
But not before I mumble things,
And look like the undead.
I may not like to rise and shine,
But soon I’ll come around,
As I’m remind each new day
His blessings will abound.
I don’t like his morning song
That’s one thing I’m confessing
But I’ll try to be reminded
Each new day is a blessing.
*Proverbs 27:14 (NASB) He who blesses his friend with a loud voice early in the morning, It will be reckoned a curse to him.
This author is not afraid to admit that he/she actually has this verse written on a card, taped to his/her alarm clock. It looks a little worse for the wear.... The card that is, not the alarm clock.
**Or ten... This author may also abuse the snooze button at times.

Since I'm really not a morning person, I so enjoyed Ode to an Alarm Clock.
Very creative.
