‘Tis the twilight of the seasons,
When the world winds down for winter,
And the sun makes early curtain
As it ordains night, augmenter.

There’s a crispness in the morning.
There’s a tingle to the senses.
Only once a year this happens;
It’s the magic fall dispenses.

As the green leaves spring had painted
Now are dying, they still grasp
From the sun their boldest color,
Till they’re withered by wind’s gasp.

Hear the children’s laughing voices
As they rake dried leaves in heaps;
Hear their squealing rising sharply
When they land with flying leaps.

Brilliant blue of sky in summer's,
Elbowed out by greedy clouds,
Which devour smoke from chimneys
To envelop in their shrouds.

Tender flowers sadly shrivel;
All but pansies stay asleep,
Safe beneath the ground till spring comes,
When they’ve promises to keep.

With the coldness comes migration,
Birds that fly to southern climes.
For the beasts there's hibernation,
Till they welcome warmer times.

While the lakes and ponds are freezing,
Land lies bracing for the snow
To spread wide her crystal blanket
Beyond lamp and fire glow.

From the kitchen sweet aromas,
Spice and apple, pumpkin pie--
Here God’s human creatures gather,
Thankful for His good supply.

In the Bible there’s a reference
To a season for all things,*
And I’m partial to this season
For the pleasures autumn brings.
