Who you are messing with
Do you?
You think you know.
You think it’s Mickey Dripping
Don’t presume that
Just because my hair is combed the same way is it was yesterday
Just because I am wearing my school uniform like I always do
I am the same person I was yesterday
Today
Just like yesterday
And the day before that
You may think you can knock my pencil case off the table
Snigger
And swagger back to your seat
And I will not bat an eyelid
Try it and see
Mickey
Will not be dripping
Today
I've had enough!
You have stretched the elastic band
Of my patience to breaking point
With the words you whisper behind my back
With the words you speak to my face
With the words you scrawl on the desk you sit at
So
Not quietly and gently
But suddenly and unexpectedly
I am going to snap
Stinging the hand that gets in the way
If only your insults had been
Original
Creative
Witty even
I could perhaps forgive
But your vocabulary is
Limited
Predictable
Crude and
Wholly lacking in imagination
Everything is “gay”
I am “gay” because
I don’t play football
I don’t watch football
I don’t like football
I am “gay” because
I write poems
I read books
I do my homework
So today
If you knock my pencil case off the table
If you snatch my bag and hide it in the cupboard
If you call me “gay”
Let me tell you what I will do
Let me spell it out
I will pray for you
Laugh if you will, but
You see,
When I pray
God listens and answers
I am going to pray
That the God who changes the heart’s of people
Will change your heart
And you will change
And there is nothing at all that you can do to stop me
Praying
And there will nothing at all that you can do to stop yourself
Changing
Mickey
Will not be dripping
Today
Author’s note: “Mickey Dripping” was my brother’s nickname at school.
