in the romping through soft summer wheat,
in the tossing up and up of raked leaves of the trees,
the Lord laughs and He laughs at all that He sees.
in the sliding of puppies across waxed linoleum floors,
in the splashing of ole Dad in our own swimmin’ hole,
in the swinging higher and higher to touch the blues of the skies,
the Lord laughs and He laughs in these sweetest of sighs.
in the kissing of young girls on their then freckled cheeks,
in the blushing of boys when their first loves they do meet,
in the dancing of old men on their sore aching toes,
the Lord laughs and He laughs at all that He knows.
in the catching of fireflies on a hot August night,
in the exploding of fireworks in cascading delight,
in the spinning of pinwheels and the clowning of clowns,
the Lord laughs and He laughs, “Away with frowns!”
