I race through valleys that had been caressed earlier by the sun’s golden fingertips. The shadowed reality of cares and worries sweeps across the landscape behind me in an attempt to silence my trust. All that had been serene and beautiful shivers now at the sound of an approaching storm.
In the confusion, I seek asylum beside a tranquil stream of praise, but it rushes past me in a raging turmoil of frustration and grief. Overwhelmed, I fall to my knees. I have no strength to lift my hands. A weak attempt to worship leaves me in tears, and my faith fades to reveal a mountain of despair looming before me.
Climb. The command penetrates the depths of my heart, but discouragement clouds my eyes of understanding. I am blind to the obvious way of escape, and I whimper, “I can’t.”
You are not alone. Let go of your fears and believe.
In a humble moment of trust, I reach out. Warm hands of compassion grasp mine. Strong arms of mercy and grace embrace me. Love enfolds me and leads me away from the tumultuous clamor of my doubts to the base of the mountain.
Amid the tempest, I hear a faint but clear voice, “I will be with you.”
Though unknown terrors seek to undermine my footing, I feel a peaceful presence protecting me as I climb above the troubled storm. The voice has grown louder, like the rushing sound of a mighty waterfall, “You are almost there; don’t look down.”
My feet search, and then find the last foothold, while my hands grope for the edge of the summit. When I reach solid ground, the veil slips from my eyes. Familiar faces surround me, and understanding breaks through as I see Him, for whom my soul longs, revealed in each member of the Body of Christ. It was their hands, which had kept me from falling, and their voices, which had blended together to encourage me.
Safe on the mountaintop, above the valley of trials and tribulations, we have come together as one to worship the Lord. It is there in His presence that we are able to look down and see rainbows of hope suspended within the mists of heartache and failure...a reminder that we are never alone.
Though the evil one would shroud our existence, he cannot abide the light within us, and while the enemy of our souls may be relentless in his efforts to silence our testimonies of grace and mercy, love gives us the boldness to overcome his lies.
Our strength is forged within the cords of fellowship, and when gratitude and thanksgiving unite our hearts in worship, the throne room of Heaven is filled with the fragrant incense of our praise. We are the redeemed, blood-bought by the sacrifice of the Lamb who was slain before the foundations of the world. With the angels, we cry, “Holy, holy, holy. Worthy are You, Lord, to receive honor and praise.”
From heart to Heaven, our voices merge into the rushing sound of a mighty waterfall, and the whole earth is filled with His Glory.
