As she looked all around,
But Kitty was suspicious and
Did not want to be found.
“Now where could that old cat have gone?”
His little mistress said.
“I bet he’s hiding somewhere near,
Like underneath my bed.”
“Aha, I found you, Silly Cat,”
She laughed and gave a shout,
As on her knees beside her bed,
She dragged the kitty out.
Then quietly she tiptoed to
The bathroom in the hall,
Where earnestly she told her pet,
“This will not hurt at all.”
Then making sure the door was closed,
She turned toward the sink,
And filling it with water said,
“It’s not for you to drink.”
She’d seen baptism at her church
When people testified
To how much joy salvation brought
And peace they had inside.
She asked her cat, “Have you been saved?”
And looked him in the eye,
“And will you live your life for Christ
Till He comes by and by?”
“I’ll baptize you, dear Brother Cat,
In Jesus’ holy name,
Like Preacher did it at the church,
I’ll do it just the same.”
At that, she pushed him in the sink
And tried to hold him tight,
But Kitty gave a mighty leap
And landed out of sight
She found him crouched beside the tub
With terror in his eyes,
Then went to get her baby doll,
Another to baptize.
