And every loud clamor and outburst met with critical looks.
When entered a class of third-graders upon the wooden floor.
And the librarian was reading - -
Reading - - reading - -
The librarian was reading up by the entrance door.
She stated her rule with just a glance, spectacles perched her nose.
Her hair in a bun high on her head, her lipstick dusty rose.
She smoothed the front of her blouse as she sat atop her stool,
And she read with a concentration - -
She held her concentration - -
She kept her concentration on the callers from the school.

While walking they were talking - -
Intensely they were talking, a fact she’d not accept.
Out from behind the counter she came, ‘hind the cluster of kids.
The buzz of excitement filled the air, but noise the rules forbid.
She prepared to give a warning when she saw their happy looks.
The youngsters were excited - -
They all seemed so excited - -
And she became excited as they chose their favorite books.
