“What do you mean?” His friend, Tobias, had joined him for a quick lunch.
“Well, for some time now, Jesus has been very explicit about this upcoming trip to Jerusalem. He has been implying that He will be arrested and even killed. Yet, His closest followers keep arguing about who is the greatest. And who is going to sit at Jesus’ right hand when He sets up His kingdom.”
“Seriously?’’ Tobias was not in the know as much as Jason.
Jason leaned forward, searching Tobias’ eyes. “Shortly before leaving Capernaum, Jesus got them together and asked what they had been arguing about on the way to their meeting place. They fell silent because they had been arguing about who was most likely to hold top positions in Jesus’ kingdom.”
“That must have been embarrassing,” Tobias responded.
“Well, that’s not all. Jesus called a little child before them, and picked him up in His arms. He said, ‘Whoever welcomes this little child, welcomes me. He who is least among you all—he is the greatest.’” Jason sat back and picked up a slice of bread, then repeated, “Whoever is least is the greatest!”
Tobias finished his lunch, then spoke softly. “It will be interesting when they come to Jerusalem for Passover.”
“Yes,” Jason said thoughtfully. “Very interesting.”
