that the poor in spirit
are destined for the kingdom of heaven
the meek too
shall inherit the earth
How countercultural
are these sayings
professional front
—a confident self
is the preferred norm
Yet You say those who mourn
will be truly comforted
Will the merciful
be shown mercy
or be taken advantage of
Often modern society
mocks at those who are kind
gentle and sorrowful
jeers at the mild
and more peaceable
What about those who hunger
and thirst for righteousness
Will they find satisfaction in life
many will prefer the materialistic
way to find happiness and fulfilment
Will those who keep their heart pure
be able to see You
instead of meditations
special sacrifices and prayers
or pilgrimage trips to holy places
Peacemakers
are those that are ear-marked
for Your kingdom
instead of war mongers
peace usurpers
A life style of tolerance
and patience
towards those who revile
and persecute
is what You require
Whom shall I go to?
Lord ,You alone
have the words
of Eternal Life
You are my only hope
