Where all our secret thoughts we keep,
Thoughts that no-one else can know,
A place where only we can go.
But outward deeds will bring to light
Our soul’s desires well hid from sight;
Our works display what’s hid within
For with our thoughts our works begin.
What’s treasured deep impacts our deeds,
From there all good and bad proceeds;
The Scripture states that this is so—
A truth you really need to know.
The deeds displayed by carnal man
Do not please God and never can,
And every soul is in this state—
It’s fallen human nature’s trait.
How then can we do what is good?
For if we knew you’d think we would!—
But we don’t have the pow’r required,
Unable, even if desired.
A force unseen keeps us enslaved,
In fact we’re hopelessly depraved—
From strongman’s bonds we must be freed
Unfettered in each thought and deed.
T’was Christ’s sole purpose when He came
Our souls and spirits to reclaim;
His blood has paid the ransom price
To set us free—Now, it’s our choice.
In spirit must be born again,
Our souls set free from pow’r of sin;
New fruit we bear that proves it’s so,
As slow but sure we see it grow.
And though shortcomings still exist
He will lead us to persist;
Our names engraved on Heaven’s roll
So bless The Lord in heart and soul.
