With trepidation, I pondered what I must do to dispel the erroneous reports about me as I waited for my interview with Mr. Evans. He was to be my supervisor in my newly appointed position with the company. I was sure he had preconceived impressions about me because I had heard people whispering to him on several occasions before our meeting. I had to assume they were telling him tall tales about me. My many exploits caused some secret chatter that inevitably became distorted by people who had no idea what was involved.

Whisperings are usually the vehicle for secrets: negative gossip polluted by personal opinions. The murmurings of the people in my work zone were sure to change slightly from one person to the next, as she said that he said, that they said, and so on. When the reports got to Mr. Evans, I could not trust that they were true. The gossip flying around was hearsay at best and would most likely be negative. I knew I must disprove the myths that the undercurrent of chatter had created.

I turned to the Word of God and found that there was evil wherever there were whisperings.

“The lips of my enemies And their whispering against me all the day.” Lamentations 3:62 (NKJV)

I was correct to assume that the things my coworkers said about me produced a lousy report. These people had become my enemies because of what they had created in their minds. Why did they do that? Was it because of envy or jealousy? Whatever the reason, I had to prove I was the right person for the job. Again, as it says in the Word, I knew what to do:

“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.” James 3:13 (NKJV)

Mr. Evans opened his office door and invited me to sit opposite him for the interview. Once we were seated comfortably and the appropriate greetings exchanged, to my surprise, he smiled at me and said,

“I know you are the right person for the position, and I approve your appointment.”

Stunned, I answered, “Is there anything you would like to ask me?”

“No, I have heard everything your jealous coworkers have said about you. Their negative accounts show me that the truth is the opposite of their secret whisperings. I have seen your work, and it speaks far louder than any rumors could ever do.”

It was evident that God had already prepared this occasion for both of us. I had already proved myself, and Mr. Evans perceived the truth about me by my actions rather than the whisperings of evil intent. God honors us when we live by His Word and do what He says. Always!
