My Friend, My Brother

Proverbs 17:7 (KJV)- “A Friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”

Jonathan and David were friends that loved each other at all times. No matter what happened they promised to love one another. “Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul,” (I Samuel 18: 3). (I Samuel 18: 1-4). Jonathan refused to kill David; when his father, King Saul demanded that he kill David if he comes in contact with him. Jonathan disobeyed his father and saved David's life by warning him of King Saul's evil plans to kill him (I Samuel 19:1-2). According to I Samuel 18: verse 7, Saul wanted to kill David because of the women saying, “Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.” I Samuel 18: 8-10, let us know that Saul became jealous of David and feared that David would take his kingdom. Therefore an evil spirit came upon Saul, and Saul desired to kill David (I Samuel 19: 1-19).

“And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David,” (I Samuel 19:1). “But Jonathan Saul's son delighted in David and Jonathan told David, saying Saul, my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself,” (I Samuel 19:2). “Then said Jonathan unto David, whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee,” (I Samuel 20:4).

Daniel was also a friend that loveth at all times. He not only saved his three Hebrew friends, Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego, (whose Hebrew names were Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah) but he saved the lives of all the wise men of Babylon that had been chosen to serve King Nebuchadneezar (Daniel 2: 2-49). Daniel was such a good friend to his friends Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego; that he asked king Nebuchadneezar to promote them after he was promoted by the king after he told the king his dream and gave its interpretation (Daniel 2:48-49). The king was going to kill all the wise men in Babylon including Daniel and his three companions because the magicians, and sorcerers, and Chaldeans could not tell the king the dream that he had dreamed and the dream's interpretation (Daniel 2: 2-13). As a result, the king made a decree that all the wise men be killed (Daniel 2: 13).

“Then Daniel went in and desired of the king that he would give him time and that he would show the king the interpretation,” (Daniel 2:16). “Then Daniel went to his house and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah his companions,” (Daniel 2:17). “Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven,” (Daniel 2: 19). Daniel told the king his dream and the dream's interpretation (Daniel 2: 29-49). As a result, “The king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon,” (Daniel 2:48). “Then Daniel requested of the king and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel sat in the gate of the king,” (Daniel 2:49).

Two examples of brotherly friendship or a brother that is born for adversity are Aaron and Moses and Joseph and his 11 brothers. Joseph was chosen by God to be a future leader to save the peoples of the Earth, his brothers and his father from famine (Genesis 41: 56 -57). “And the famine was over all the face of the Earth: and Joseph opened up all the store houses, and sold unto the Egyptians and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt,” (Genesis 41:56).“Then Joseph commanded to fill the sacks with corn and to restore every man's money into his sack, and to give them provision for the way: and thus did he unto them,” (Genesis 42:25).

When God had chose Moses to be the one to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt, Moses made the excuse that he was “slow of speech,” (Exodus 4:10). In verse 14 of Exodus 4, God asks Moses “isn't Aaron the Levite his brother?” God told Moses that Aaron, his brother could speak well. God made Aaron, Moses' brother; Moses' “spokesman,” (Exodus 4:16).

You have some great examples in this Bible study. Instead of quoting the verses word for word, try retelling it in your own words to help connect with the reader. A good percentage of what you wrote are direct quotes from the Bible instead of original words and your thoughts of how they inspired you. A tiny thing that is a pet peeve of mine is using the word that instead of who (They were friends who loved--not that loved). It's a tiny thing, but one I tend to notice. I can feel your passion to write and spread the Word of God. Nice take on the verse topic too, with a pertinent message.
