It was less than an eighth of an inch long.
I had felt a slight tickle on the back of my hand. And there it was - a creature, a tiny creature. It must have had legs, body and all the other bits that creatures have. One of God’s creatures. Miniscule. It got me thinking.
Every creature is constructed to move, whether in the air, the sea, rivers, on land. And even in the land itself. Whether it is large or small, it is built to move. Every single one must move whether slow or fast or at some in-between speed.
And we are all creatures. Our Creator has made us mobile.
Wonderfully important is the fact that the journey of every creature has a starting point and a destination. A beginning and an end.
Another aspect of journeys and movements for humans is that they can function on different levels. The most obvious movements are physical. My wife and I were walking in a Park in Wales a few days ago and teenage pupils from a nearby school were running round its lengthy paths. Coo! What a variety of speeds, limb movements, attitudes - some eager, some reluctantly and others just looking cheesed off. But they were all moving.
Now beyond physical movements there are also mental journeys we travel. There are emotional journeys most of us have been on more than once. And of course, whether we believe it or not, every human being is on some sort of spiritual journey.
Now how can I avoid elaborating a bit on the last of these categories? Our spiritual journey.
The Bible says plainly that by nature we are spiritually dead. Ephesians 2:1.
We only get going on a good spiritual journey when we are born again. John 3:3.
And the beauty of that journey is to walk with Jesus all the way.
And the end of that journey is to be with him for ever.
Praise the Lord!
