Men, women and children with herds of animals rush to leave Egypt without knowing where they were going. Just eager to escape.
Believing God and trusting their leader Moses, the Israelites flee.
It had been a long, terrible time but finally they were free to go.
"During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship the LORD as you have requested." (Exodus 12:31 NIV)
So with wise and courageous leadership, guided only by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night God's chosen people began the long, hard journey through the desert
They would witness amazing miracles of provision and care. They would also encounter obstacles that tested their faith. And ultimately they would fail to remain faithful to the God who saved them.
The Apostle Paul used the fate of the Israelites to warn the Corinthians to be careful to stay faithful to Jesus and His teachings.
"These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come." (1 Corinthians 10:11 NIV)
We all encounter obstacles that test our faith daily as we journey through the deserts of this life.
But we have the infallible Word of God to lead us. Real-life experiences of men and women who have gone before. We learn from their successes and their failures. Their stories remind us to choose to remain faithful to the God who saved us.
