I feel His presence as I write. Thoughts come fast and bright on this cold autumn day. I can't see Him, but I can picture His expression as I tell of what He has done in my life and praise His unmerited love and faithfulness; He's smiling.
When I was a single parent with an eight-year-old son to raise, temporary child support of only fifteen dollars a week, and moving out of my house, I had few resources. I was homeless but not forsaken; God's Holy Spirit was new inside of me. The joy of His presence filled me even amid some tears.
During that season of my life, God used other believers to express His love by ministering to me in His place. I went on a full scholarship to a three-day Single's Conference at the Crystal Cathedral in Southern California. Sunday, following the evening service, there was Afterglow, a time of praise and worship music. We were singing, "There's a sweet, sweet Spirit in this place, and I know that it's the Spirit of the LORD." Looking around the room at the sweet expression on each face, I felt at home, with family. It was a bit of heaven.
One gifted well-to-do gal gave me excellent haircuts at no charge as part of her ministry. On two separate occasions, people gave me a word of knowledge that was accurate and apropos. My first Thanksgiving with just my son and me, I came home from a night class to find a bag full of everything I needed to cook a feast.
Out of this transition time, God began showing me ways I could help others in His name. Giving and receiving are both a joy.
I'm old now, with pain in my spine and knee, but the Holy Spirit is still strong in me during this Autumn of my life. You, LORD, have poured out Your love so openly and freely to me. Please give me the ability to proclaim the inexpressible gratitude for Your love, shown to me in Your Son Jesus. That has been my ongoing prayer
Jesus is the full expression of Your love for us. Thank You.
I Corinthians 2:14 states it best:
"Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place."
What a magnificent verse! God releases the scent of the knowledge of Christ everywhere His followers go. I'm wearing the essence of knowing Christ. What perfume are you wearing?
This is life eternal; that we should know Him, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. John 17:3
