My wife and I drove the short distance down to the car park of Sainsbury’s supermarket. As I reversed into a parking space, smoke began pouring out from under the bonnet. Wow!
Our immediate reaction was to jump out and get away. But the car park was crowded with cars and people and it would have been chaos or even tragedy if we had left our car to burn there.
With smoke pouring out, I drove to a servicing garage a few hundred yards away. We jumped out and the garage staff used several extinguishers. The bonnet would only lift up a few inches, but we could see the engine compartment full of flames.
The garage called the Fire Service. They had it all sorted out in a quarter of an hour, but our car was way beyond repair.
Despite such a frightening experience, Veronica and I felt very thankful to the Lord because he loves us so much.
He had protected us from awful things that might have been.
He had not let it happen on a motorway.
He had not let it happen on a small road miles out from anywhere.
He had prevented the fire from damaging another vehicle or a building.
He had protected other people from the danger so close to them.
All in all, it was a precious demonstration of God’s loving care for us. It was yet another expression of his mercy in Jesus. Praise his name!
