Topic: EXPRESSION (11/12/20)
TO KNOW GOD, IS TO GLORIFY HIM

We know about God by reading the Bible. We know God by personally experiencing His presence in our lives. This knowledge finds expression in our glorifying God, in speech, word and deed. The lives of Daniel, John, the apostle , and Elijah are some examples in the scriptures.


Although a captive in Babylon, Daniel's God given wisdom won him the favor of King Darius. He became one of the three governors of the kingdom. This caused the envy of the other officials to plot his execution. They passed a degree that the nation should worship the golden statue of King Darius. Anyone who dared to disobey would be thrown into the lions den. They knew that Daniel, faithful to his God,would defy the decree.


Daniel opened the window in his upper room and in full view of his accusers, knelt down and loudly thanked and praised God. They threw him into the lions den . But God saved him. When the King saw him alive and well, he acknowledged the greatness of Daniel's God. The King and his nation glorified God.


Exiled for being a Chrisrian, the apostle John, spent his time meditating upon God. The angel of the Lord visited him there and showed the visions of the end time prophesy. Filled with the ecstasy of these revelations , as commanded by God, he expressed them in words. These writings are recorded in the Bible in the book of Revelations. This is the only book in the Bible that gives a blessing to anyone who reads it. It is a book that glorifies God.


Humble, faithful and obedient, Elijah is one of my faithful people in the Bible. I picture him sitting under a fading tree, watching a brook, the only source of his water supply slowly drying up. He is waiting for his meal to be served by that ugly scavenger of the skies, the raven. He is not disgusted,complaining or dismayed. In a country suffering from drought and famine, he is thankful for God's provision. God tells him to go to another city and find a widow woman who would take care of him till the famine ends. Elijah does not question the possibility of the widow providing for him, but obeys.

Elijah finds the widow woman, who tells him she has just enough food for her and son for one meal. He daringly asks her to feed him first and God will arrange to feed them till the famine ends. I wonder what made her oblige. Was it the expression of faith she saw in his travel weary, hungry, dust streaked face? God kept His promise. I am sure that every time they shared a meal they glorified God.


The experiences of God's presence in a believer's life fills him with peace and joy that flows until it overflows and finds expression in glorifying God. Daniel voiced it, John wrote it, Elijah lived it. Their examples challenge me. In today's compromising world what is the expression of my faith?
