Crimson colored eating machine chews a plant,
The root withers; sudden death!
Faint grows Jonah, he does,
No shady plant and sun beating down,
“Death!” He calls inside himself.
The only God, He answers,
“Is righteous the anger within your heart,
This pity My plant receives?”
“Yes! Your judgment, I await,
Enduring the heat, You still show mercy!
Righteous...me! Even to death!”
“Jonah, misplaced pity, it is,
Pining the plant that lived but once,
People are more! My heart!”
“Children and livestock, there are,
Why slate for death with blood-thirsty adults?
Vile actions I completely abhor.”
“Repentance and mercy, united be,
I am your God, slow to anger,
Be like Me, the Almighty!”
One more lesson, there is,
Wrapped in the worm and the plant,
Patience so we can understand.
The crimson worm, it lives,
Foreshadow and description of Christ the Messiah,
Fulfilling Law, the withering plant.
Shady the Old, it is,
Condemnation school, yet brings us to Christ,
Chosen, His cross, His blood.
Mercy endures, it does,
Arms wide open, forgiving repentant sinners all,
Free to live His love.
