There were many times when the Lord showed Himself real in my life, but there was one time that stands out above all the others. I went into surgery that morning for a routine procedure, but something went very wrong. I was supposed to be in surgery for about three or four hours, but I did not go into the recovery room until nearly eight hours later.

I started to wake up and wondered for a few seconds where I was. Then I remembered I was in the hospital and realized I was in the recovery room. Suddenly, I was jolted into reality by a searing pain in my abdomen. I learned later that the anesthesia had completely worn off, so I had no more pain killer in my body. I suddenly felt as though I was going to pass out, so I called “Nurse!”

One of the nurses came over, and asked, ‘What do you need?” She looked into my face, and then called into the intercom, “Dr. Johnson, Code Yellow, stat!” After a few seconds, the nurse spoke into the intercom, “Dr. Johnson, Code Red!” A few seconds after this, I passed out.

While all this activity was taking place, I prayed. I thanked the Lord for my life up until that moment, and I asked Him to comfort my husband and my parents. I told the Lord that it was fine with me that He was going to take me to Heaven, and to please take care of my husband, my parents, and my pets. I also asked Him, “If you are going to take me, take me now! This pain is just unbearable.”

The next thing I knew, I felt the pain of a morphine needle in my stomach. I knew then that I was on earth and not in heaven. Dr. Johnson told me, “I thought we were going to lose you. You went into shock and stopped breathing. Your heart stopped for a minute or two. But we were able to revive you and bring you back.”

My mother told me later that at the same time I was going into shock, she had mother’s intuition that I was dying. A few moments later, she felt I had died. She prayed, “Please Lord, don’t let my daughter die. Please let her live.” A few minutes later, my mother felt I had been brought back from the dead.

God was enough when I needed Him. He is always enough.
