Years later, I look at the lives of my children and realize that I've created monsters. I was so engrossed in giving them everything they wanted or thought they should have that I didn't consider the outcome. I am feeling the pressure of trying to give them whenever they ask. The more I give, the more they want.
Now that they are grown, and I am unable to give like they expect me to, I beat myself up because I have no funds or answers for the situations that arise. And they go about their business getting what they need by any means necessary. I'm left feeling unneeded and incompetent.
Considering my life, in comparison to their lives, my life was much richer. Even though I didn't have an abundance of wealth, I had the impotant things: love, respect, honor, compassion, humility, trust; must I go on? These are things that are lacking in the generation of today.
A life of abundance has nothing to do with how much one has, but rather more of what one does with what they have. I can see, now, that my life was more fuller and richer than I thought. I would not trade one portion of it for all the wealth of this world.
