Topic: Shopping (03/01/07)
Shopping in todays grocery stores and department stores can be alot of fun, but at the same time, mind boggling and physically draining.
In grocery stores, you have to deal with things like name brand or store brand, sodium or low-sodium, calories, additivies, diet or not diet. It's enough to drive you insane. For instance, I went to the store a few weeks ago to pick up some of my favorite brand of laundry softner. When I got to that aisle, I found not only my brand of softner, but now they had it in 5 different frangrances. There was a couple other ladies standing there checking them. Sniffing each and every one of them, we all looked like a bunch of honey bees feverishly searching for the right flower to pollinate.
Clothes shopping isn't much better. Do you remember when you could go get a size you need and never have to try it on because you knew you were that size and it fit perfect? Now you have to get several sizes in different name brands, spend what seems like hours trying them on to make sure they fit like you want them too. I just wonder how many closets all over the world is full of clothes and three or four different sizes and they all fit. Especially in childrens clothes. That's a nightmare!
I remember when I was a little girl going shopping with my mother. In the grocery store, I was allow to pick out my favorite cereal and maybe some tasty treat. In department stores, I usually got what outfits I wanted within guidelines of being raised by christian parents. But it was fun, not such a hassle and stresful.
People today I don't think would know how to handle a one stop, once a week shopping store like they had years ago. They usually carried one brand items, clothes were the size you need for the age and if they got to small, you moved to the next size up or bought cloth to make your own. Things didn't come already cooked to where all you had to do was warm them up in a handy dandy microwave. You had to make them from scratch and bake them or cook them with a wood burning stove you had to go cut wood to make it work.
Now I am not saying I don't like the new technology we have today to make life a little easier, but we need to take it as a Blessing from God, especially if you work long hours or have children at home to tend too.
So when you shop, relax! All these luxuries we have now, we may not have in the future.
Of course there are poeple out there that may not agree with me, but this is just my opinion.

Good thoughts here. The paragraphs need to be separated however. When submitting to the challenge, indentations do not take. Thats why we're requested to put a space between each paragraph - it helps with the reading. I'm not sure, but it may take away some of our point value to not have these spaces. But keep trying. There is good thinking here and I especially liked the phrase "we all looked like a bunch of honey bees feverishly searching for the right flower to pollinate".

You made some very good observations here and I can hear your sincerity in your writing. I agree with the previous posters and I think you did a good job.
