I love the scripture in Isaiah 40: 31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Studying this verse I discovered the word (wait) used here, means "to be twisted together". This means there is no separation, no space between the strands for anything else. Think about it. Picture in your mind a rope. There are many strands twisted together to become one, making the rope. One small strand of the rope is not very strong, yet when they are all twisted together, it has great strength. .
This is the picture God gave me of how he wants us to be, in order to receive all He has for us. Alone you can do nothing. Oh, you may try to help God out, thinking as the little child 'I can do it myself'. You get in his way and slow things down making a mess of whatever you try to fix. Finely you may realize you are helpless and need help. Then you beg for help, when, if you had been twisted together with Him, you would have had the strength to let Him do the work in the first place. You must be twisted tightly together with God and Jesus, who is The Word. Then you can walk and not faint.
Have you seen someone in a movie that was stumbling across the desert? The sand is so deep they have trouble lifting their feet enough to take each step. The sun is reflecting off the sand searing the skin and blinding them. There is no relief from the heat, the sand, or the blinding light. There is no water to cool the parched mouth. They know if they stop they will die, so step, by step they stumble along. Then they spot what they think is an oasis. Running now they fall into a hole to drink and be refreshed only to find more sand. They have been tricked by an illusion, all they got was a mouth full of sand.
Life gets like that. Sometimes you seem to be wading through one trouble after another. You know somehow you must keep trying. You are becoming buried in hopelessness. One mistake after another; one sickness after another; one problem after another, on and on and on. Then you may think you have the answer to all the trouble only to find it was an illusion, all you got was more trouble, a bad taste in your mouth and no hope. You are stumbling, falling, hopeless.
Reach toward God and His Word, take His hand, rise up, begin to twist yourself around The One who has all the answers. Twist yourself so tightly to Him there is no room for anything else. Start from the beginning, just you and God and His Word. Take Him at His Word. Believe every word, receiving it as coming directly from God to you. Then you will learn to walk. Then you will not be weary. Soon you will be able to run. His strength will be your strength. His wisdom will be yours.
God is not an illusion. He is true to His Word. When you reach out to Him, He will hold you up in all the troubles and trials. Giving you His strength, wisdom, and understanding. Whatever you need, He has. Refreshing you, giving new hope where there was no hope.
Reach out to God, learn to wait in the Isaiah 40:31 way. Soon you too will mount up with wings, as the eagle, riding above the storms of life on the wings of the spirit.
Take my hand Lord, help me to truly wait upon You, that I might know what it is to walk and not faint. Thank You, for the hope I have in You. I ask this in Jesus name with praise and thanksgiving.
