Topic: Life (06/15/06)
‘Life is what you make it’; ‘Life is a journey’; ‘Life is who you are and wish to be’. All these and many more are ways in which people have tended to describe this great mystery and enigma called life. Many a philosopher has philosophized, theologians theologized and even mathematicians calculated, but none seems to have grasped the entire truth of what life is. I don’t know what you think of life, but I personally think that there cannot be any definitions; rather it is experiences that must describe what life is.

Did you ever get a gift from a person you so treasured but had not met for so long? Just think for a moment how you felt when you had it in your hands! One time I got a ring-rosary that has changed my attitude. The rosary came from a lady friend with whom I had been friends but she left to her homeland in Ireland, since she left while I was away, we never got to exchange the contacts. However after a number of years of my searching, I got the gift coming to me through her uncle who had come to our country. She had just remembered the youth center were I used to be and trusted I will get it once the uncle reaches there. Thank God I got it.

Oh no! Pardon me, I wanted you to imagine how I felt if you have never experienced such happiness. Now that is the same way we should feel about life. So you ask, ‘is life a gift and from who?’ I answer yes life is the most precious and rare gift of the most special and intimate friend who you know loves and cares for you even if you forget. Life is God’s most precious gift to you and me.

So what do you do with a gift? I know that a gift is a making present of the giver to the one given. However, would it be a gift if you kept it in a good safe and only went there to glance at it every evening? No, not at all. A gift is a gift when it is used, or so do I think as the best way to appreciate the value of the gift. What am saying is simply that, God is a loving and caring Father who gives His children – you and me – gifts not because they have merited them, but because he wants them to be happy. And the best gift that God gives is His own presence made manifest in the person standing, sitting or walking beside you now. What? Or is that not what you just said? Yes accept it or don’t, you are a gift to someone. Your life and my life are God’s gift to humanity and indeed to all creation. Yes, just as a gift is always beautiful due to the giver, so is your life a beautiful gift to me and I pray God that mine will be the same to someone else. For I trust and know that life is a gift to be shared.

Good message in here, but it took a couple of readings. Some of your sentences are run on and repetitive (see this sentence: The rosary came from ..), and (Did you ever get a gift from a person you so treasured but had not met for so long) should be reworded for clarity. You have a nice style so keep at it. :)
