Topic: Life (06/15/06)
There has been a theme going on in my life over the past week. A recurring scripture that has really begun to speak into the life of my family and myself, in John 10:9-10 Christ is speaking “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

I have started to allow the scripture to lead me in this way; I had been the sheep that was staying in my master’s pasture, seeking the refuge and strength that came in the protection of His pasture. Recently, He has sent me out into other pastures with the reassurance that He watches me wherever I go and that His protection will follow. While there is a firm warning to watch out for the thief. In my life as I have begun to go into these new pastures with my eyes open, my mind alert as to who the enemy is and where he may be prowling, I have remembered that my master came that I may have life and have it to the fullest.

What does having life to the fullest really mean though? When Christ speaks in the Matthew about heaven, he mentions storehouses and rewards that neither thief nor moth can touch. I believe that what Christ was saying here in John also relates to the eternal part of our life. To the gift that He imparts upon us when we accept the salvation message, repent, and ask Christ to become our master. Here on earth we may live comfortably, have a home and provisions knowing that the promises of God include that he will take care of us. However this should not be our focus we need to be looking towards eternity. Paul talks about running a race and the prize at the end. To live a life to the fullest means to me to live a life for Christ, in Christ, and with Christ.

As I go into the pastures of writing, education, parenthood, being a wife, ministry, and whatever other pastures my master may show me I need to remember that having life to the fullest is not always about today. This life is temporary but the life we received in Christ continues into eternity and that is when I believe we will live it to the fullest. We will enjoy the wedding feast, the company of many who have come and gone, and even those who have yet to come.

This is a good message with a nice writing style. A bit of refinement (such as: When Christ speaks in the Matthew .. s/b speaks in Matthew), but overall a good read.
