Topic: Life (06/15/06)
I looked up the word “life” in my Bible concordance. It stated that life is: The union of body and soul. Genesis 2:7 KJV “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Think about that for just a moment. A living soul!

About five years ago, I had the privilege of assisting in the delivery of my youngest grandchild. She was a little early and very eager to arrive. We didn’t even make it to the car, she was born in my living room at 2:05 a.m. on Sunday morning. I can tell you the time, the date, and almost every word spoken during the few moments. When that little girl tumbled into my waiting hands, she let out a small cry and inhaled the breath of life. I tried to wipe out her mouth and she instantly began to suckle on my finger. It was an amazing life changing event.

I truly believe that life is to be enjoyed. God created such a wonderful world. I love to sit in my yard in the cool of the afternoon and just listen! I listen to the quietness of the evening, the birds, the frogs, the sounds of the neighborhood, dogs, cats, children at play, and on and on. At first it seems very quiet and then you begin to pick up on birds, maybe a woodpecker in the distance, a train on a far away track signaling an up coming crossing, or children laughing and playing in the neighbor’s yard. When we go to the mountain, I try to visually inhale the creation of His mighty hands. At the ocean, walking through the waves and tasting the salt on my lips, I thank God for his bounty. I am not always the optimist. I see the destruction caused by war, storms, sickness, and I cry. These have affected my family as well as others. As a Christian I am not immune from sorrow. Matthew 5:45 KJV “……..and (God) sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust”.

You and I are accountable to God for the life we live. It is a gift from God. Our bodies are a temple for the Holy Spirit to dwell within. Are you keeping your temple clean? Are you utilizing your life for the work of Christ?

A very thoughtful piece, with a nice, clear style.

I'm picking up a very deep sensitivity in you as an author, but there's a sense that you're holding back a little bit. Your list of things that touch you in God's creation is keenly observant, but again, I'm hungry for some emotion, for how things truly affect you at the gut level. How will you grab me, the reader, at the core of me, and compel me to keep reading?

One exercise that has helped me is to just start writing, whatever comes, without editing as I go. That brings my deep places to the surface. I can be as crazy or senseless as I want. Let it all out on paper (sometimes a pen is easier for this than a computer), and forget about what the judges will see until your final edit. It will amaze you what gems will surface!

Keep writing! You've got a wonderful gift in there!
