Susan had a rough life, especially where men were concerned, she thought this might be a good way to meet a Godly man. She eagerly jumped on her laptop, found the site, and signed up. After scrolling through many pictures, she came across Mr. Irresistible. She eagerly shoots him an email, hoping that he would reciprocate, and he did. She was surprised and happy. She felt her heart quiver, with a happy dance, and a big smile burst across her face, Yep, she was excited.
Nervously, she clicked on his email, not knowing what to expect, she began to read…“Hello Beautiful,” and from that, she knew it was on. He humbly spoke a bit about himself and what was important to him, “I was hoping to find a God fearing woman, that I could cultivate a friendship with.”
Then he said,
“I enjoy the company of a beautiful woman who is strong, respectful, kind-hearted, and understanding; these qualities is of the utmost importance to me.”
Susan sensed sincerity in his tone, and his words touched her heart. He impressed her, (it was a refreshing change from what she was used to.) After finishing the letter, Susan groped her chest, let out a sigh, and shouted— “Could my luck be changing?”
She took a deep breath and started to laugh, she could hardly contain herself. She sprang up out of the chair; giddy with excitement, screaming out loud, “Is this guy for real?” she was a bit apprehensive.
Susan desperately hoped that this guy was on the up—and—up. Men, who were pretentious and disingenuous, had burned Susan in the past, they played her, and she didn’t want a repeat performance.
She prayed, asking the Holy Spirit, to help her in discerning the matter, to guide her, and direct her.
Each letter revealed him more, he was a single dad and a widower … his wife, his soul mate, died in childbirth with their second child several years ago. He felt that “there was nothing that could compare to love, and the sweetness it brings.” He was ready to love again; she was hooked.
Susan looked forward to his letters; she enjoyed reading them immensely. His words were music to her ears and melody to her heart; his sweetness and gentility was endearing. He enthralled her! Before she knew it, she was in L-O-V-E.
Susan’s heart was compromised by her desire for him, and it blinded her to some truths. One day she discovered Mr. Irresistible twisted, diabolical scheme to rip her off, and she realized he was using her: he played her like a fine-tuned piano.
She grimaced at his audacity, her stomach churned at his tactics, and a rush of righteous indignation came crashing in like a tsunami.
Outraged at his betrayal, and deceitfulness, Susan went on the prowl; confronted him with a few choice words; tearing that low down, good-for-nothing-backstabbing-scoundrel to pieces. He slithered like the snake he was, as he tried to squirm his way out of the situation. She looked at him with contempt, wasted no more energy, turned in silence, and walked away; he was de…ad to her.
Susan was bewildered!
Once in her car, rivers of tears rolled down her cheeks, she screamed in agony … nooooooo!
Not … again. Susan’s pain cut deep. Reeling with emotions, she struggled to compose herself but was overcome by disillusions. Erin S. Lane states, “To be disillusioned just means to be freed from the lies that keep us from living in reality. Lies that . . . dulls our hearts, clog our ears, and blur our vision.”
Susan’s impetuous act inadvertently opened the door, giving the enemy access to wreak havoc in her life.
Satan used her weakness to trap her. 1 Peter 5:8 (NIV) “ Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.)
She wrestled with low self-esteem and depression for a very long time; she couldn’t help herself. God graced her through her anguish and helped her regain her heart. Susan searched for answers as to why this keeps happening to her. One thing she realized is that her desire to be loved by a man interfered with her relationship with the one who loved her most.
