There was a song out years ago that proclaimed in the chorus, “Everything is beautiful, in it’s own way. Like a starry summer night or a snow covered winter day”.
I like that because it got me to thinking. Some may say that’s a dangerous thing but I am not deterred.
I started to think about things that I normally consider ugly. A hippopotamus jumped to the forefront. Now that’s an ugly guy. Those big squared off front teeth and that not so svelte figure. How about the smell? He kinda reminds me of, well ME, although I make sure to use “Old Spice” after each bath, which I routinely take at least twice a year.
What about Spiders? Big HAIRY ones that get caught in your hair while you are innocently trying to mow your yard, causing you to swat away at yourself while you run around in circles, wondering if it got down your shirt. Perhaps this is why my wife makes sure that she has something more pleasant to do when it’s time to mow the yard, such as get a root canal.
And how about FEET? The ONLY feet that I think are even closely endearing are a newborn’s feet. Especially when they’re in those little booties that resemble cake decorations.
But think about this...
A hippopotamus was around in biblical times. (Job 40:18) He might have been on the ark with Noah. (Let’s hope that old Noah ALSO remembered to pack the industrial strength, Family Pack of “Old Spice”.)
This morning while I was out in my yard (not mowing, just walking) I came upon a spider in her web and got the chance to watch nature at it’s very best while drinking a cup of coffee. (I was drinking the coffee. The spider didn't want any.) I thought of the classic “Charlotte’s Web”. I was saddened when I went back this afternoon to see this creature again and only a single strand of the web remained.
As far as feet go, I think that just about every Christian has heard Romans 10:15. “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.”
I guess everything IS beautiful in it’s own way.
But I’m going to draw the line at telemarketers.
