He taught His precious loved ones how to sing.
The shepherd boy, who sang the Psalms, was dear to God's own heart
And Israel's "Sweet Singer" was made king.
Throughout the ages, singing hymns brings comfort to our hearts.
We sing when we are weak and when we're strong.
We sing through sadness, sing for joy, and sing because we've found
For every situation, there's a song.
While standing at my window, I look out across the surf.
The bolts of lightning pierce the darkening sky.
I need not fear for God is near and brings this hymn to mind,
I'll sing it "Til The Storm Has Passed Us By."
A lonely sailor stands beside the wreckage of his craft.
The clouds above are poised in threatening form.
He spots a cave among the rocks that line the jagged shore.
He's found "A Shelter In the Time of Storm."
A mother rocks her baby whose been coughing all night long.
She prays, recites some Scripture, and she sings.
The doctor's grim prognosis does not dim her faith in God,
So confidently she sings "Under His Wings."
While kneeling in a dug-out, deep in mud so wet and cold,
A soldier hears the nearby firing squad.
He holds his younger buddy who is wounded and afraid
And hums "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God."
Beside the graveside, Grandma stands and looks down through her tears,
The dearest one on earth, with all his charms,
Is gone from her, but as she grieves, she knows that she will be
Still "Leaning On The Everlasting Arms."
A Scout who hikes with others on the Appalachian trail
Discovers he has wandered from their guide.
Among the rough terrain, he spots a perfect spot, so he
Sings loudly "In the Clefted Rock I Hide."
The doctor holds the mother's hand and then he softly says,
"I'm sorry that your girl did not survive."
He puts the baby in her arms, amazed to hear her say,
"'Safe In the Arms of Jesus', she's alive!"
God wisely keeps it hidden what lies just around the bend.
It's better that His children can't foresee.
But we can follow blindly where He leads us all as we
Call on the "Rock of Ages, Cleft For Me."
