Dark clouds slowly drifting away
To allow the sun to spend her coins of gold,
A curl of smoke rising from the chimney of a log cabin
Leaning against winter-barren trees on mountainside,
The procession of a bride in dazzling white,
A Christmas tree alight with glittering ornaments.
Delicious is the sound of . . .
Hymns sung by a choir to a rapt audience,
A mother crooning a lullaby to her baby,
Shrieks of laughter by children at play,
The murmur of family conversation at dinner,
The ocean as it pounds a bass rhythm
Incessantly against the shore.
Delicious is the touch of . . .
A caress or kiss by a sweetheart,
The hug of a friend, warm around the shoulders,
Rain pattering down on thirsty ground,
A fleecy blanket wrapped tightly to dispel the cold,
Healing hands against pain and suffering,
Magic fingers on the piano keys.
Delicious is the aroma of . . .
Brownies baking in the oven,
Coffee perking in the early morning,
A baby freshly bathed and powdered,
A garden of glorious flowers,
A green lawn newly mown,
Oak logs alight in the fireplace.
Delicious is the taste of . . .
Steaks grilled to perfection,
Crispy fried chicken or barbecued pork,
Fresh vegetables cooked in summer seasonings,
A variety of fruits, sweet and tart,
Warm apple pie topped with ice cream
Drizzling down the sides,
Delicious is a drenching of the senses all together
With a windfall of words.
