To see on window sill,
An incandescent fairy child,
Just sitting there quite still.
She wondered if the sight she saw
Was actually real
And asked her unexpected guest
Her true self to reveal.
“I’m not from Pixie Hollow,
But a planet far away,
Where other fairies just like me
Live happily each day.
I don’t have any fairy dust;
Instead I’ve tiny beads.
I wear them strung around my neck
To prompt me to good deeds.
Of nature I have no control.
That’s all left up to God.
When other fairies claim they do,
I think that’s somewhat odd.
And when I venture to your world
Of strange inhabitants,
I’m held in fascination by
Your music and your dance.
But one thing I can’t understand
Is how in recent years
You all keep talking to yourselves
With gadgets on your ears.
Some say that I’m invisible,
But seen by naked eye,
I easily resemble most
A giant butterfly.
Although I am diminutive,
I’m also very nimble.
If need be, I can hide inside
A lady’s sewing thimble.
My real first name is Twinkle Pink,
But I just go by Wink.
And you and I would have great fun,
If only you could shrink.
And now I’ve chores at home to do.
I’m sorry I can’t stay.”
She left some fairy beads behind
Before she flew away.
The little girl was sad to see
Her visitor depart
But knew she’d hold the memory
Forever in her heart.
