Trying to punch a hole in the gray blanket
Canopied across the atmosphere.
But in spite of every colorful insult,
I cannot find a way to summon
A single drop of liquid gold
Into my greedy fingers.
My dreams stall,
Empty of the fuel
I’ve been seeking.
No amount of abuse
Can coerce them to move
A single inch further
Toward my fantasies.
I have nothing left but to wait,
And scream,
And hurl more rocks
At the sky.
The raindrops begin to fall,
Dripping into my misery.
The steady
Splish,
Splash,
Splosh,
Reminds me of everything
I do not have.
I moan at my fate
As the flowers lap up the droplets
And blossom.
Here I stand,
On a fertile planet
In an arid universe.
The earth my not spin
To the beat
Of my desires,
But still the blessings fall
With a steady
Splish,
Splash,
Splosh,
Drenching
My thirsty soul.
