I stare at the moon and wait,
Daring to hope that maybe
I’ve earned enough chips
To cash in for love.
I know the odds,
I’ve calculated them over
And over again:
Once in a blue moon,
If I’m lucky.
Once in a blue moon
I’ll be good enough
To win a tiny one-scoop dish
Of love.
I’ve sat here and watched the moon
Night by night,
And I must confess:
I’ve never seen the moon turn blue.
And yet I continue to wait,
Dreaming that someday I’ll see
The forbidden hue
Of blue.
Ha! I laugh at my insanity;
Why do I wait
Again?
Why do I dare to hope,
Knowing that the moon
Isn’t blue?
I’m not good enough,
And never will be.
If love must be bought,
I’ll never earn enough
To purchase it.
Instead, I’ll wait here,
Staring at the sky,
Wishing that I had a blue marker
To color the moon.

I really liked this. I missed the opening line of italics on first read. That truly made the poem. I loved the voice, your execution, and tempo. This one might not have resonnated with the judges, but it gets a ribbon from me. Congrats!!!!
