Nice “wake up alarm” app for my new phone… but it is annoying.
As I adjusted the rearview mirror, my Droid phone rang in the Bluetooth device in my ear.
“Hi Mike, are you on your way here?” Mrs. Johnson’s sweet voice was soothing, but it reminded me I was late.
“Hi Mrs. Johnson! I’m on my way there. I’m running a little late. Worked late last night.”
“Great—I just wanted you to meet the Browns—the new family in our church. They’re excited about the Home Bible Study.”
“Awesome. I’ll be there in a little bit.”
How embarrassing… I thought, not a good first impression on the new family.
I really wanted to speed, but I resisted the temptation, purposely staying at the speed limit. It’s just a matter of principle with me—submitting to authority is a lesson I had to learn the hard way—but that’s a story for another time.
“Thank You God for this beautiful spring morning.” Sunshine sparkled through the leaves on the trees. “I love You Lord. Thank You for being so good to me… have Your way, Lord with this Bible Study.”
I finally found a place to park in the church parking lot, grabbed the car keys and walked fast toward the church entranceway. Mrs. Johnson was waiting just outside the entrance with the Browns, and just as she waved at me—
Oh NO, I forgot…
I forgot to grab my Bible, so I spun around and almost ran this time back to my car to get it.
How embarrassing…
Finally, I met the Browns and I exchanged names, hugs, handshakes, addresses and phone numbers with them. The Home Bible Study was set now for every Tuesday evening for 12 weeks. The first one was scheduled for Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday came so quickly and I had to work late—I had just enough time to get to the Brown’s home. While driving over there, Mrs. Johnson called me.
“Hi Mike!”
“Hi Mrs. Johnson, what’s happening?”
“I just wanted to remind you about the Home Bible Study.”
“I haven’t forgotten about it—I’ve been thinking and praying about it all day.”
“That’s good, are you almost there? It’s getting close to 7:00.”
“Just about there.” It was dusk and the darkness increased with every moment.
“Okay, I’ll let you go. Please call me and let me know how it went.”
“Will do.”
I turned down the Brown’s street—at least I thought it was their street—and crept along in my car until I saw their house number.
“That’s gotta be it.” I muttered to myself.
I went to the front door and rang the doorbell. No answer. I tried it again. No answer. I knocked. Still no answer. As I turned to return to my car, the light came on over of the door and an elderly gentlemen appeared.
“How may I help you? Are you in trouble, son?”
I spun around. “Is this the Brown’s house?”
“Well, son, I been livin’ here most of my adult life and there are no Browns here that I know of.”
How embarrassing.
“Oh, okay. Well—I’m so sorry for interrupting your evening, sir.”
“I am curious, what were you looking for the Browns for?”
I showed him my Bible. “I am starting a Home Bible Study with them tonight.”
“Oh? You are a Bible teacher?”
“Yes sir.”
“Please come in and talk with me for just a little while.”
“Well, sir, I am obviously on the wrong street—got the right address—but the wrong street. The Browns are waiting for me now.”
“No, you don’t understand. My wife is very sick, and she needs prayer right now; see I was young like you once… and I was a Bible teacher, too… but over the years, I fell away from The Lord, and my faith isn’t what it should be. Please come in.”
As my new friend led me deeper into the house, I quickly texted Mrs. Johnson.
“This is my wife, Yvonne.”
In tears, I knelt down by the bed and placed Yvonne’s frail hand on my Bible and prayed.
The Lord took an embarrassing situation and changed it for good.
They both were saved.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable read with a very compelling message for us all!
I liked how you threw in "How embarassing" every now and then--really tied the piece together well.
