If only he could be allowed to roam the farm once again. Then he could keep a keen nose and sharp teeth available for his helpless, shaggy sheep-friends.
Not his fault either last week, he went to the next farm and tasted those chickens. Yum. But now he’s here in his cage at night having to tip toe around numerous piles of goodies.
After all, he’s a proud breed of white Pyrenee. And should be allowed to be more than just a protector of the flock during daylight hours. That was a duty any dog could perform.
Storm was always allowed to roam at night and keep a wary eye over the sheep. His deep bark sounded like a grizzly able to scare away intruders.
Now all he could do is wake up his master.
First, barking when he sensed the coyotes, then sleep until daylight came and resume duties when sheep were released from their large pen.
In the meantime he could rest his throat, since no more barking was needed, nor any need to upset the master. He’s not even jealous about the llamas allowed to do his job as they prowled Grinch-like around the sheep pen at night.
Now the dog called Storm dropped his head after so much thinking. Sleep led
him into a whole new world. Where barking all night was allowed as he chased
sheep into small bundles of protection.
And as he dreams his master places a delicious bone before him. It’s proof he still loves his precious dog.
