Through the meadaw dippin’ deep ta the valley
A lone boy strolled talking most to hisself
Tho’t he heard a reply o’er yonder cliff’s shelf
“HELLO!” says he through his two cupp-ed hands
As answer came to him from way far off lands
He jes couldn’t make out who was this child
The answer returned and it twern’t all that mild
I thinks I will find who this loud feller be
So he hid hind a briar bush and down on one knee
“WHO IS YA FELLER?” ‘twas almost a quake
Same words comin’ back and mad did he shake
Riled up was the first whose voice had been mocked
“LOOKIN’ FER A FIGHT?” Said he, ready and cocked
That voice kept a mocking most loud than afore
If he wants a whoopin’ he’ll git that and more!
Now Ma’s words come back to this lil ol’ lad
“Yer frens er jes like ya so don’t make me sad
Pick uns that er gooduns ta walk alongside”
He gave no good listen nor did turn the tide
The yellin’ got fiercer un louder did spout
His Ma had she heard him ‘ud yank him about
He came from hind bush to have a look see
Why, twern’t no other only one is jes me!
Pickun’ frens that er like ya’s not always the trouble
Could be problem’s you, an’ you got a double
Can two walk together ‘sept they be agreed
Take a look in the mirror; see what fixin’ ya need!
