“Happy Feet, Happy Gilmore, Happy Campers, and Happy Endings” are just a few movies that contain the word “Happy” in their title. Several books such as “The Pursuit of Happiness, Mary Lou Retton’s Gateway to Happiness, and The Art of Happiness” have all been written to help the individual find the meaning of true happiness. In 1989 the ‘Best Song of the Year’ went to artist, Bobby McFerrin for his a cappella song, “Don’t Worry Be Happy.” We even sing “Happy Birthday” when someone turns another year older. A three-year-old claps with joy when family and friends gather around her cake and chime in with that familiar tune. When I recently turned 40, I can definitely say that I was far from happy about it. Other than my brief hissy fit over my age, I consider myself to be an overall happy person. Therefore, I will share a full proof plan that will lead the grumpiest person into a sea of happiness. The frown will rotate around and form a life long smile across his face. This advice is even free, I promise not to charge a penny, but “happy” comments are always welcomed.
The first thing that Grocho must do to obtain happiness is go to a Bible-based Christian church. The reason the church visit is so important is that the Bible that he will need later is free. Most churches would fall over backwards, jump through hoops, and dive at one’s feet just to be able to give him a Bible. Plus, the congregation is full of people that will truly love and care for his well-being. They will become friends, confidants, aids, mentors, and brothers and sisters in Christ.
If Grumpy, one of the seven dwarfs from Snow White, is your favorite character, then the next thing you need to do is open that Bible that you were generously given at the church you just attended. Open up to the book of John. Read it. Pay careful attention to the first two verses, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.” (John 1:1-2) Jesus is that Word, He is God incarnate and He came to save those who are lost, broken, and miserable. Since sad is the opposite of happy, I promise that your sadness will turn to gladness. After reading the book of John, make sure you check out the other three gospels, “Matthew, Mark, and Luke.” These books in the Bible are a much better read than the above mentioned books. Inside them you will learn all about Jesus’ birth, teachings, and death.
The final and most important step to obtaining complete joy and happiness is to say the prayer of salvation. Going to church is good, reading your Bible is great, but accepting the free gift of salvation is fantastic. One will not know the true meaning of happiness until he admits his sins, asks for forgiveness, and welcomes Christ into his heart. Accepting Christ as your personal Savior is a straight ticket to heaven where you will rest for eternity “on cloud nine.”
These three steps are full proof ways to turn Grochos, Grumpies, and Geezers into happy fulfilled Christians. By going to church you will be surrounded by other jovial Christians. By reading your Bible you will envelop your head with blissful thoughts, and finally, by reciting the prayer of salvation you will fill your heart with happiness.
Every year, February is “Healthy Heart” month. Its main focus is to educate Americans on the prevention of a heart attack. While this is a positive practice, I believe that most people could improve their gloomy attitude by having Jesus fill that deep hole in their heart. Make this your spiritual month to gain a new and improved “Happy Holy-Heart.”
