A hundred thousand things a day
Demand my time and mind I say
There must be some other way
To get it done then I can play.
When I was young it was my kids
Later I'll write when they're in bed
I'll just put away the toys and sleds
Then I'll write till I am red.
Alas there comes at the door a knock
My neighbor's kids have left their socks
When at last I turn the lock
There comes full-tilt writer's block
Oh well I'll rise at 5 A.M.
Surely nothing can stop me then
My mind so clear that I could ken
A word from God from mind to pen
But woe is me I forgot to set
The clock alarm but never fret
I'll jump right up I've never let
Such minor details stop me yet
I'll just plug in the coffee pot
Then I will be Johnny on the spot
Oh oh my husband's lost his hat
But I can find it just like that ….
The years have passed and I have not
Found the time - that's been my lot
So take it from the would-be sot
Don't let your talent sit and rot.
