It is unfortunate there are many in our great nation who see us as Nationalists: many want English as our official language, many want people coming to this country legally, many want to abide by our Constitution alone, and many want to see other countries become democratic-republics or continue that form of government like America had been for 235 years.
What’s wrong with Nationalism? Well, many see Nationalism synonymous with Germany prior to WWII. The Germans were tired of foreign intervention, they were tired of being improvised, and they were tired of being blamed for WWI. There is a parallelism here with the state of affairs in America today: many here are tired of the United Nations taking our money, condemning our actions, and siding against our friends; many are tired of high gas prices, high food prices, and high taxes; and many are tired of being labeled as war mongers.
However, Nationalism in Germany took a turn for the worse as they gave blind allegiance to one man; they proceeded to blame one ethnic group for all their woes; and they waged war on their neighbors in order to prove the superiority of their Arian race.
The reality is that many of the folks calling others Nationalists are the ones acting like the Germans. Many of them are looking for a “Fuhrer” (which simply means the “Leader”) that will take care of all their woes so they can sit back, surf the internet, eat fast food, and get cradle to grave healthcare. They often treat the “rich” as the Jews were treated in Germany. Those evil, greedy, “rich” guys are preventing everyone else from obtaining their “right” to healthcare, education, broadband, and a host of other affinities. They wage war on “BIG” anything, even on traditional American values. They continue their war on free thinking that is not politically correct, and on our laws, our ethics, and our morality.
American Nationalism or more preferable American Patriotism is all about EVERYONE, not just one race, not just one economic status, not just one religion, not just one gender. Somewhere it says, “All men (and women) are created equal endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, among them life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” This is American Patriotism. This nation guarantees Life and Liberty to all within the confines of established law, and it gives everyone the opportunity to pursue happiness. The pursuit of that happiness, however, is up to the individual to decide based on law, ethics, and morality. The government is there to give the greatest opportunities to this pursuit. The government is not there to decide what is for your own good, or to give you what it thinks you need to be happy.
There are no better experiences in our history that established the standard of the outstanding greatness of the United States of America as does the Civil War and WWII. In the Civil War, state rights went up against human rights. As important as states rights are, nevertheless, human rights won the day with the freeing of 4 million Americans.
In WWII, we were ruthlessly and violently attacked on one side of the world, while on the other side of the world a reign of terror descended on friends and some were even slaughtered just for the color of their skin. We defended and liberated countless millions and stopped the genocide of an entire group of people. As important as a nation’s sovereignty is, no nation is allowed to attack other nations for territorial gains, nor is any nation allowed to commit genocide.
This is what American Patriotism is all about. Most in our great nation have a love for our outstanding Constitution, our outstanding way of life, and our outstanding desire for justice and mercy. We want to spread this type of Nationalism – American Style around for others to enjoy.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
May God continue to bless our OUTSTANDING NATION!
