Abel’s innocent blood
Raising in the first lament
“How long, O Lord...”
Like a weed the evil spreads
Till every man but one
Does what’s was right in his eyes
Causing God to groan
Noah alone walks with God
Favored in His eyes
He carefully follows every instruction
Every measure, every line
In the Ark mankind is saved
Hope for a better world
But not many generations later
Innocent blood is spilled
Once again a cry is heard
Two evil cities the source
Innocent blood weeps from the plain
“How long, O Lord...”
Full measure of God’s wrath unfurls
In fire, brimstone, and death
For a moment silencing
The cry of innocent blood
But man is man and year by year
The ground is soaked and stained
As evil men subdue the weak
spilling blood again
Women, children, even priests
fall to man’s cruel ways
Till at last the time has come
For The Ancient of Days
Jesus walks the blood stained ground
As innocent as a lamb
Spreading love, forgiveness, and grace
To every woman and man
But evil men, greedy for gain
Hate His loving ways
Soon they plot to kill this rabbi
Spreading peace and grace
With a kiss He is betrayed
by one He taught and loved
Thirty pieces of dirty silver
The price of innocent blood
But what the forces of darkness miss
Is that his blood is pure
And as He gives His life away
God’s measuring cup is filled
Christ’s blood begins a different song
Replacing the lament
No more, “How long, O Lord.” it cries
Instead, “It is finished!”
All God's wrath is satisfied
By Jesus’ death and life
Now innocent blood waits silently
For the full measure of time
A day is coming, quickly now
Where all mankind is judged
Those outside of Christ’s forgiveness
Are guilty of innocent blood
Yet still He calls and beckons man
“Come to Me, weary and lost
Do not cry ‘How long, O Lord?’
Instead embrace the cross”

I think you meant: Does what was right in his eyes, not Does what's was right in his eyes
Instead, “It is finished!”
Amen! I liked the journey you showed from the beginning of time until now. And eternity. Great poem!
I was wondering if the lack of rhyme in several stanzas was intentional. My knowledge of rhyming patterns in poetry in deficient. :-)
I LOVE, "Christ's blood begins a different song, replacing the lament.
Whether the construction of this poem is up to the snuff of rhyme and meter and/or any other measurables for judging poetry, I have no idea. I do know it delivers a potent message and I was compelled to read every word. Thank you so much for sharing it!
You presented each stanza in a powerful and thought provoking way--leading finally to those wonderful words 'it is finished' well done.
Loved it.
