He shuffles off to bed,
And Lady Springtime tiptoes in
To govern in his stead.
Harbinger robin is the first
To tell of her arrival
While pecking ‘neath the crusty snow
In search of his survival.
The sun’s rays are much warmer now
That Lady Springtime’s here,
And birds begin to build their nests
And sing sweet songs of cheer.
Soft rains will come to wash away
The last of snow’s remains
And soften earth’s cracked surfaces
From Winter’s icy stains.
The creeks, long frozen, soon will thaw
And burble on their way,
As animals, asleep in dens,
Then come outdoors to play.
The trees will don fresh robes again
In varied shades of green,
And leafy shrubs and prickly plants
Will join their verdant scene.
From God’s gigantic palette, filled
With every tint and hue,
He’ll paint pastel and brilliant buds,
Which make a grand debut.
The sky’s a brighter color here
In Lady Springtime’s world
As banner of God’s care of earth
In beauty is unfurled.
