When we meet the person who is “right”-
We are filled with rapture and delight.
It seems we can read each other’s mind-
We “fall in love” and our eyes are blind.
But once we’re married – the romance goes
When reality puts out it’s glow.
Disillusionment may now appear
And begin to unmask hidden fear.
The human being of our fantasy
Is different in reality.
We begin to wonder what we saw
In this person with more than one flaw.
Marriage begins to feel like a war
And we’d like to walk right out the door.
Kid and finances add to the strain-
Love life suffers and becomes a pain.
If we can get our feet on the ground,
Mid-life crisis starts to come around.
“Have I achieved what I set out to?
Have I stopped growing because of you?”
When the kids go and if we still care-
Genuine love is what we can share.
We see each other for what we are
And appreciate we’ve come this far.
