It is a proven fact that most people aren't easily satisfied.
People can and do get satisfied with material things but not for long.
I will begin with Adam and Eve. I would say that out of all the people that were ever created by God, I think, they would have been the most satisfied.
She had it all, beautiful looks (with no competition), wealth (the whole garden), peace of mind (no loud neighbors, or noisy traffic), probably never suffered from PMS.
But, Oh no, not Eve.
Eve decides, today she'll go for a walk in the garden, mind you, it had to be perfect. Not even God could have improved it. Not that God would need to, since God created it perfect from the get go. I picture Eve strolling through this beautiful garden no cares in the world all her needs are met, talking to all the near by creatures, when she hears a voice.
I can see her looking a little confused, but not questioning where the voice is coming from.
Psssst, over here, look, up here in the tree, yes, Eve, I am speaking to you. She looks up into this tree, immediately she recognizes it. It is the forbidden tree, God had warned her about.
She can still hear God's voice telling her and Adam to avoid this tree. Eve questions herself. I wonder what this creature wants with me.
She is now being set up for the fall.
Here the creature has begun to beguile her.
You've probably heard the story a few times.
The Fall of Man
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden?'"
The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.' "
"You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
Adam and Eve were satisfied, they had everything. But they as we have read didn't stay satisfied. They wanted something better.
Now for you men, yeah, you men are never satisfied either.
Lets take a look at David. He became king over Israel. David had everything that a king could want.
Riches (beyond belief), followers (ancient groopies),and more wives than Mickey Rooney. If that's possible.
Here is some of the story.
David and Bathsheba
In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king's men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem.
One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, "Isn't this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite?" Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. (She had purified herself from her uncleanness.) Then she went back home. The woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, "I am pregnant."
David decides to take a walk on his roof in the cool of the evening.
When what to his wandering eyes should appear, a woman bathing.
I can see David now looking over the side, stepping back at first.
Then he begins to think. I have to have her.
All the single women in all of Israel, David has to have Bathsheba.
David took his eyes off God.
Gratification?
He didn't get satisfaction!
Its not what can satisfy.
Its who can satisfy.
Keep your eyes on Jesus.
Only then will your appetite be satisfied.
