My favorite line is when they say there are more nerds than beatiful people. Doing great things is what life is all about. All of us in our own ways are heroes. We may not realize it however, we are. God chose us to do something and we agreed with him by doing
it.
I am always encouraged to see in scripture the types of people God used. David, a simple shepherd and a teenager whose original job was taking food to his brothers. In the end, slayed a giant that no one else wanted to take on. Joshua, a teenager who dreamed
a lot and his brothers thought he was crazy. They probably never expected Joshua to become a king. Jeremiah, also a teenager called to do the most difficult task of all. Telling the Israelites that they displeased God and had forgotten His deliverence from slavery.
Jesus chose some characters to follow him. A tax collector who probably cheated people, did them dirty or even took their homes. Fishermen whom he called to be fishers of men. Of all the people Jesus could have called, he called those that were low on the social
ladder.
I wonder what God looks for in those He calls and uses to do great things. Wealth? Degrees? Popularity? If any of these were a characteristic that God looked for, no one would be used. God looks a little deeper at our spirit. Faithfulness. Obedience. Those that are unashamed.
God looks for those whose hearts are His. God looks for those that stand on His word no matter how big or small the sins are. No matter how difficult the decision to obey even if the consequences are high. If we do what God expects of us, in His eyes we are heroes. Heroes
of a different kind.
Heroes in the Kingdom of God. Jesus said that the least among us will the greatest in Heaven. While we live in world that puts labels on us, lookout. No matter how the world views us, we are great in the eyes of God. If we fail, so what. We learn from it and we move on. God doesn't
hold our failures against us even though we do and to our detriment. Instead of being heroes we are fallen soldiers.
Perhaps something else God looks for in heroes is the ability to pick up the pieces and move on. Broken pieces of dreams or goals. When we are broken that when we are most valuable to God. God has us in a place where he can do something with us. Mold us to his purpose and
the likeness of his son.
It is important that we realize there is more to life than taking up space. None of us are here by accident and all of us has a purpose that was set aside before we were ever born. God chose us for something great.
To be a hero.
