TITLE: The Double Doors

It was early a.m. At the push of a button a whirring noise began that soon transformed into a gentle hum. The siren sounds of the computer were the only stirrings in the silence of the early morning beckoning its companion to explore, discover, and learn together. There in that darkness, no words needed to be spoken. The only light was the inspiring glow emanating from the monitor screen as it pierced the night. The only movement was the pulsation of the cursor as it flickered on and off on and off waiting for instruction like an obedient servant. With each touch upon the keys of the keyboard the screen reflected the secret password that was entered to gather manna sufficient for the day. The password, represented by asterisks, spelt out purposely the word faith. “Faith” connected with the internet and the door swung open wide inviting this sleepy-eyed traveler on a spiritual journey of inspiration and revelation.

The devotional reading this morning would be at the feet of one of the great servants of Christ. Watchman Nee met the search engine Google. Instantly their partnership displayed a series of writings penned by this insightful early 20th century Chinese Christian.

As eager as one can be at 5:30 in the morning, the mouse was moved and “clicked” on the writing entitled “The Normal Christian Life.” Humbly, but powerfully Nee related to the reader his perspective and interpretation on the teachings of the Apostle Paul found in the book of Romans. He shared that the work of Christ at Calvary offered a double cure. That the blood of Christ shed on Calvary’s tree spoke to the sinful deeds of Adam’s race and that the Cross of Christ dealt with the believer’s sinful nature. He further declared that the Christian Life is not a changed life, but an exchanged life. In closing Brother Nee stated that Christ’s experience is now the Christian’s experience and that truly the work of Christ is finished. Our part was to accept.

Sitting at the computer station I was stunned. Was this true? As Christians do we really begin with resting in the finished work of Christ? Surely, I have a part to play? It all seemed too glorious to be true. And there I stayed pondering, questioning, probing, and doubting…teetering at the brink of an open door that would lead to a fuller, more joyous walk with The Christ. A walk that would be characterized by the words of Paul in Galatians 2:20, “It is no longer I that liveth, but Christ that liveth in me.”

Praying, I asked, “Is this true, Father? Is there another door beyond the door of salvation? Is there a door that leads to a fuller life in You?” In the silence of that illuminated morning came my answer. “There is only one Door to be entered into. Enter fully,” He whispered.

Overwhelmed by Love, I tearfully replied, “How, Lord, how?” His reply, “Just enter your password.”
